History

While sheer size makes it a standout at the Santa Barbara Harbor, the account of the ship’s invention puts the Channel Cat in a class by itself.

Charlie Munger, Berkshire Hathaway Vice Chairman, set out to custom build, at the time, the largest sailing catamaran in the world. Mr. Munger enlisted a boatyard in Florida to construct this beautiful 85 foot vessel. From the initial drawings done on cocktail napkins, to the inclusion of fiber optic lighting for custom-etched glass panels, to the beautiful birds-eye maple craftsmanship, Mr. Munger was involved in every step.

After three years, it was time to splash the boat and set sail on a 7,300 mile journey through the Panama Canal to the Santa Barbara Harbor, which will forever be her home port.  The Mungers continue to enjoy being at sea aboard the Channel Cat with family and friends.
